Porcelain Veneers
Clackamas, OR

Your teeth have some essential functions. They allow you to bite and chew a wide variety of different foods. They enable you to speak properly. They play an important role in the health and integrity of your jawbone. The teeth also play an integral role in the quality of your smile. Any flaws in your teeth, no matter how small they are, can significantly impact the appearance of your smile. When your smile is less than perfect, your confidence may also be affected. At Sunnyside Dentistry, we can restore the appearance of your teeth, improving the quality of your smile, with cosmetic porcelain veneers.

Are Your Teeth Affected by Minor Flaws?

There are many different types of small flaws that can impact the appearance of your teeth and the quality of your smile. These flaws include:
•  Small chips or cracks in the enamel layer of your teeth.
•  Minor alignment issues such as slight overlapping or small gaps.
•  Oddly shaped or small teeth.
•  Tooth discoloration.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a common dental restoration used to correct the appearance of teeth affected by minor flaws. They are shell-like structures that are designed to be bonded over the front surfaces of your teeth to cover over the flaws affecting the appearance of your teeth and greatly improving the quality of your smile. Veneers can typically be made from composite resin or porcelain, but porcelain is a much more popular material.

The Benefits of Using Porcelain

There are many benefits to using porcelain for your veneers. First, porcelain provides an incredibly realistic appearance. While both composite resin and porcelain are tooth-colored, porcelain can be stained to perfectly blend in with the color of your natural teeth. The material also reflects light like natural enamel, providing a real shine to your restorations. Other benefits of porcelain veneers include:
•  Strength. Porcelain is stronger than composite resin, and the material can stand up to more use. Where composite resin veneers may last 7 to 10 years, porcelain can last 15 years or longer.
•  Stain resistance. Composite resin is porous and can accumulate stains. Unlike your natural tooth enamel, composite resin cannot be whitened. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and are better at resisting stains than your natural enamel.
•  Biocompatible. Porcelain is biocompatible, meaning that it is well tolerated by your gums and will not cause irritation.

How are Veneers Placed?

The process for placing veneers typically requires two separate appointments. At your first appointment, the teeth receiving the veneers are prepared. Preparing the teeth, which is done under a local anesthetic, involves removing a small amount of the enamel from their front surfaces. This is done to ensure a proper, natural, comfortable fit. After the teeth have been prepared, an impression of your mouth is taken. The impression is sent to our dental lab and used to design and create your custom veneers. During your second appointment, the veneers are checked for fit and comfort and then bonded into place, providing you with an enhanced smile and a significant boost in confidence.
