Temporary bad breath is not a big deal and can be easily fixed with tooth brushing and mouthwash. However, chronic bad breath can not only make you self-conscious, but it can also signal problems with your oral health.

What Is Chronic Bad Breath?

Doctors and dentists consider a condition chronic if it continues for a long period or reoccurs frequently. There are several reasons you may have chronic bad breath. If you take medication for allergies, asthma, or high blood pressure, one of the side effects of these medications is dry mouth, which can cause bad breath.

Your diet also has something to do with bad breath, such as if you eat a lot of spicy food, food with lots of onion or garlic, or you do not drink a lot of water. Also, seniors are more likely to have chronic bad breath than younger adults.

The most likely reason people have bad breath is their oral hygiene routines. If you brush and floss your teeth each day, you are far less likely to have bad breath.

Treatments For Bad Breath

One way to fight bad breath is to drink plenty of water. Drinking water has several benefits. You can fight dry mouth by drinking water, which fights bad breath by rinsing away bacteria that cause bad breath. Second, you can step up your tooth brushing and flossing. You may want to try to brush your teeth each time you eat to reduce the bacteria and food particles in your mouth.

If you are looking for another method, there are some natural remedies for bad breath, such as citrus, apples, mint, and parsley. Any of these foods can help your bad breath. What if you have tried everything, and you do not think they are helping? That is when you take some time and call our office. Our dentists can give you other solutions for your bad breath and check that there are no underlying dental issues that may be causing it.
